The Hot Wind Arena set for the Pokemon Trading Card Game has been revealed, bringing classic characters from throughout the franchise back alongside their partners.


The Japanese Battle Partners set is all about the Trainer’s Pokemon mechanic, where a human character’s name is in the title of the Pokemon, such as Hop’s Zacian. One main difference of this mechanic is that Trainer’s Pokemon can only evolve from each other, and not Pokemon with regular names.

The confirmed characters in the set so far include Misty, the Water-type Gym Leader from Pokemon Red & Blue; Ethan, the protagonist of Pokemon Gold & Silver; Cynthia, the Champion of the Sinnoh region in Pokemon Diamond & Pearl; and Arven, one of the rivals in Pokemon Scarlet & Violet.

Ethan’s Trainer Pokemon include the Cyndaquil line, Pichu, the Slugma line, and Ho-Oh ex. He will also feature on the Ethan’s Adventure Supporter card, while the Sacred Ash card is based on Ho-Oh.
