All companions in Baldur’s Gate 3 have one issue or another that needs solving. Halsin wants the goblin leaders dead, Shadowheart wants to deliver a package to the city, and Lae’zel wants to find her kin.
Baldur’s Gate 3: How To Use Mods
Seen a modded playthrough of Baldur’s Gate 3, or want to get into modding just for the hell of it? We’re here to help you get started.
Karlach’s problem is her overheating, malfunctioning infernal heart. The one-horned tiefling barbarian is quickly deteriorating, and the only person who can help is Dammon, an infernal engineer of some skill. Here is where to find him.
Updated by Hamza Haq on January 4, 2024: The article has been updated with new information about the exact location of Dammon in Acts 1, 2, & 3 as well as all known locations of Infernal Iron, Alloy, and Metal in the game and the difference between them.
Where To Find Dammon In Chapter 1
Dammon can be found in the Druid Grove marketplace near Auntie Ethel. He uses a tent as a makeshift blacksmith shop in the center of this area. If you’re having trouble finding him, you can always look for him on the mini-map.
Hover over the name of any NPC you see on the mini-map, and you’ll be able to see their name. This is particularly useful when you’re in a busy area and need to find a very specific person to talk to but can’t make out their features because of the top-down view of Baldur’s Gate 3.
If you have Karlach with you, she will ask Dammon about her infernal engine and the problem of it heating up. Luckily, Dammon is knowledgeable and will be able to help her, but only if you have some Infernal Iron as raw material.
If you do have Infernal Iron with you, you can give it to Dammon, and he will solve Karlach’s immediate problem in Act 1. If you decide to massacre the Grove, Dammon will die, making completing his related quests impossible.
Where To Find Dammon In Chapter 2
If you end up saving the tieflings, make your way to the Last Light Inn in Act 2. You will find him inside. If you forgot to talk to him in Act 1 and didn’t solve Karlach’s problem, this is another chance to fix her. Dammon will still need some Infernal Iron to work with, however.
If you kill the Strange Ox in Act 1, Dammon will not appear in Act 2. It’s unclear whether or not this is a bug, but keep it in mind if you’re planning on employing his services in Act 2
Where To Find Dammon In Chapter 3
If Dammon survives the events of Acts 1 & 2, he can be found in the Forge of the Nine at the east end of the city. Walk inside and open the mini-map to find his location at the shop. It is located directly east of the Devil’s Fee in the central area of the map.
All Infernal Iron Locations For Karlach

|

|
Goblin Camp (Dror Ragzlin’s Treasure Room) |
Enter the Shattered Sanctum and make your way to the throne room, where Dror Ragzlin is trying to revive a dead Mind Flayer to talk to him. At the back of this room, there is a locked door. Lockpick this door and enter to find a large treasure horde inside. Loot it, and you’ll find a piece of Infernal Iron alongside some other goodies. |
|
Zhentarim Hideout |
At the far end of the hideout, there are two locked doors guarded by patrolling guards and wolves. Sneak into the second room (left) by lockpicking the door and open the chest inside to find the third Infernal Iron. |
|
The Gauntlet of Shar |
Inside an opulent chest behind a locked door near Balthazar’s location when you first meet him in the Gauntlet of Shar. This is a DC 30 check so make sure to bring someone proficient in lockpicking. |
|
Reithwin Mason’s Guild |
Just inside the main room, look for a table with some knickknacks on it. Infernal Iron is one of the items. |
|
Steel Watchers |
Killing the Steel Watches in Act 3 will sometimes yield Infernal Iron as loot. |
Other than Infernal Iron, there are three more Infernal items: Infernal Metal, Infernal Alloy, and Enriched Infernal Iron.
- Infernal Alloy Location: Grymforge – Can be bought from Stonemason Kith who is examining the broken pillar just behind the Grymforge waypoint. Kith will flee never to be seen again if you kill Elder Brithivar and the other Duergar after freeing True Soul Nere. If you pass the three dialogue checks when talking to this NPC, he’ll give you the Infernal Iron for free.
- Infernal Metal Location – The Gauntet of Shar: Can be obtained by killing Yurgir and looting his body.
- Enriched Infernal Iron Location – Steel Watchers: Some Steel Watchers will drop Enriched Infernal Iron instead of regular Infernal Iron when killed.
Infernal Metal and Infernal Alloy can both be used at Dammon’s shop in place of Infernal Iron and he’ll craft you Flawed Helldusk Armor. Enriched Infernal Iron currently doesn’t have any known use. Only Infernal Iron can be used for Karlach’s quest.
