Among the many optional bosses in Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, Chromatic Orphelin is one of the interesting ones. This Chromatic Nevron is hidden in an area that is very easy to miss because it’s an optional one.

Upon encountering the boss, you will realize that, unlike some other creatures like the Bourgeon in Flying Waters, you have to beat three separate enemies in this fight. Since they only have one weakness, not being prepared for the fight can be a recipe for disaster.

So, regardless of whether you are after the weapon it drops, its XP, or just looking for a fight. Here is how to beat the Chromatic Orphelin in Clair Obscur: Expedition 33.

Where To Find The Chromatic Orphelin?

Chromatic Orphelin Location

You can find the Chromatic Orphelin in Yellow Harvest. While this boss is available to fight in the first Act itself, you do need to unlock Esquie to walk over the rocks blocking the path to this region.

To get to Yellow Harvest, travel northwest from the Hidden Gestral Arena. The place should be recognizable by the giant stone creature on top and the yellow grass patches and trees at the entrance.

Explore the region until you make it to the third Expedition Flag 68. Follow the natural path forward, then once you get to the open area, turn right and make your way to the ledges. Climb it and walk forward. You will see a tunnel where you can drop.

Drop, then go right, and you will spot three Nevrons working on building something. Attack them to initiate the fight.

How To Prepare For The Chromatic Orphelin Fight

Preparing To Fight The Chromatic Orphelin

The Chromatic Orphelin trio is weak to Earth damage. So the best members for this fight are Lune and any characters that have weapons that deal Earth elemental damage.

Now, just because you know their weaknesses, doesn’t make them any less dangerous. This boss uses attacks that deal Blight. What this status effect does is it reduces your maximum HP by 10%. The worst part is that this effect can be stacked.

Aside from the Blight, this boss has a move that is capable of killing your characters in one hit.

Here is the best party to fight against it, their recommended skills, and the boss’s movelist:

Best Party Members

Best Party Members To Fight The Chromatic Orphelin

I did this fight after starting Act 2, and my party consisted of Lune, Verso, and Maelle at levels 22, 21, and 21, respectively.

Let us start with Lune. The four skills that she must absolutely learn are Rockslide, Earth Rising, Healing Light, and Rebirth.

The first two will be used in combat to deal the trio elemental damage that they are weak against. As for Healing Light and Rebirth, these skills will come in handy to dispel Blight and revive your team. The weapon I used with her was Potierim

Chromatic Abbest is the first opportunity for the game to humble the player.

Verso can get Gaulteram

, a weapon that deals Earth damage. You can get it as a drop from the Gault enemies that you encounter in Yellow Harvest. The skills Assault Zero, From Fire, and Marking Shot, paired with this weapon, seemed to get the job done for me.

Finally, for Maelle, the weapon I was equipped with Plenum

, which you get for defeating Glaise. While I didn’t have any Earth skills with her, I ended up using Percée, Rain of Fire, and Degagement.

You can use items during Maelle’s turns to heal, give energy, or revive your party members.

The enemy with nails on its head will do backhand attacks with its plier. The first move is overhead, and the follow-up attack is waist level.

3-Hit Spoon Combo

The enemy with a pan on its head will strike your character thrice with its spoon. It starts with an overhead attack, followed by a backhand overhead attack, and ends with a waist-level swing.

Dodge or Parry

3-Hit Hammer Combo

The enemy with the glowing eyes will attack your character thrice with its hammer. All 3 of these attacks will be overhead, and they are pretty slow, so you should get enough time to parry or dodge them.

Dodge or Parry

If any of the Chromatic Orphelin moves hit your character, the Blight debuff will be applied to them. Make sure you heal them quickly, as the more you delay it, the less MAX HP they will have.

How To Beat The Chromatic Orphelin In Clair Obscur: Expedition 33

How To Defeat Chromatic Orphelin In Clair Obscur: Expedition 33

Attack the Chromatic Bruler with Lune’s Earth Rising or Rockslide whenever you get the chance. Typically, Rockslide is better for higher damage. But if you forgot to learn or equip this skill, then Earth Rising isn’t too bad either. The good thing is that Earth Rising hits every enemy on the battlefield.

Your primary goal should be to keep Lune alive as much as possible, because her Earth elemental attacks will be very important for this entire fight. Even if it comes at the cost of another party member having to spend their turn healing, giving energy, or reviving Lune. Keeping her safe will be worth it.

Just keeping her alive isn’t enough. The next important thing to do is to parry all enemy attacks. Depending on when you choose to fight this enemy, you may or may not have appropriate weapons that deal Earth damage. So, you should prioritize dodging or parrying the attacks to bolster damage.

With Verso, you can use Marking Shot to Mark the enemy. Not only the Mark debuff is awesome, you’ll also do decent damage if you have Gaulteram equipped.

Maelle’s Offensive Switch can also be useful in a similar manner to Marking Shot. You can use it to apply the Defenceless debuff on your target, reducing enemies defense by 25%.

The main move that you need to look out for is the Chromatic Orphelin’s Spin attack, as it can one-shot you. So, if you are facing this move for the first time, try dodging it first. This should not only keep you safe but also give you a better idea about the parry timing.

Continue attacking the Chromatic Orphelin with Earth damage and counters, and it will slowly but surely die.

Chromatic Orphelin Rewards

After you defeat the Chromatic Orphelin, it drops the following rewards:

If Lune is your favorite party member or someone you frequently take to fights, this boss is worth fighting to get Kralim. Its element is Lightning, and its Power is 3390. This weapon has an A scaling with Vitality and an S scaling with Agility.

Aside from that, this boss also drops a decent amount of XP, so you should definitely fight it if you are looking to make your characters stronger.
