Global Cues
In Asia, markets traded in positive territory as investors assessed China’s latest monetary easing and anticipated the Reserve Bank of Australia’s (RBA) policy decision. The Nikkei was up 1.05%, Topix rose 0.72%, Kospi added 0.34%, and the ASX 200 climbed 0.77%. The RBA is expected to cut interest rates by 25 basis points, bringing the cash rate to 3.85%.
China added to the momentum by reducing its key lending rates in an effort to stimulate the economy amid escalating trade tensions. The People’s Bank of China lowered the 1-year Loan Prime Rate (LPR) by 10 basis points to 3% and the 5-year LPR to 3.5% from 3.6%. This marks the first rate cut since October, signaling more aggressive steps to support growth.
Overnight, US markets also posted gains. The S&P 500 rose 0.09%, extending its winning streak to six sessions. The Dow Jones advanced 0.32%, boosted by an 8% rally in UnitedHealth, while the Nasdaq edged up by 0.02%. These global developments are likely to set a positive tone for Indian equities in today’s session.
