Here comes the last great American dynasty. It’s a love story, baby, and she said yes. He belongs with her.
Apologies, the lyric opportunities are endless and our heads are spinning because pop superstar Taylor Swift and Kansas City tight end Travis Kelce are engaged, according to a post on Swift’s Instagram profile.
The duo announced the news Tuesday with photos of Kelce proposing to Swift in a flower-filled garden, the couple embracing and a close-up of her (massive) ring.
“Your English teacher and your gym teacher are getting married,” the post said, alongside an emoji of a stick of dynamite. It had 2.5 million likes within 20 minutes, and over 10 million within the hour.
Almost as if it’s the good news everyone needed before August slipped away into a moment in time (again, we apologize).
Swift and Kelce have been dating for two years. Though they started dating in 2023 after the singer performed at Arrowhead Stadium — home of Kelce’s team — the three-time Super Bowl winner had expressed interest in Swift as early as 2016.
Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce are engaged, according to a post on the pop star’s Instagram. The post got more than 2.5 million likes in just 20 minutes. Kelce, a three time Super Bowl winner, has shown interest in Swift since 2016.
The NFL quickly offered its congratulations online, posting a news story announcing the engagement on its website, and writing “congratulations to Travis and Taylor” on X.
The NHL also posted a note to the couple, writing on X, “It’s a love story, and Taylor said yes.” The accompanying photo on the post shows the duo when they attended Game 4 of the Stanley Cup Final between the Florida Panthers and Edmonton Oilers.

Congratulations roll in… even from Trump
The news broke in the middle of the Kansas City media availability, leaving defensive end Mike Danna to field questions.
“Man, it’s incredible. I was caught off guard but you know, great for them,” Danna said, minutes after the news raced across social media.
“Any time you find that type of joy, blessing, love — that’s a beautiful thing.”
On Instagram, Brittany Mahomes, who is married to Kansas City quarterback Patrick Mahomes, reposted Swift’s announcement along with a message of her own.
“Two of the most genuine people meet & fall in love. Just so happy for these two,” she wrote, as Swift’s So High School played in the background.
Taylor Nation, an official part of the star’s marketing campaign, also reposted Swift’s announcement on Instagram, writing, “It’s a love story, baby, SHE SAID YES.” (See? Not just us.)
Pop superstar Taylor Swift announced her new album The Life of a Showgirl in a teaser for her boyfriend Travis Kelce’s podcast and a website link for pre-orders, but without a release date.
Even U.S. President Donald Trump, notably not a Swift fan, congratulated the couple after he was questioned about it in a White House press conference on Tuesday afternoon.
“I wish them a lot of luck,” Trump said. “I think he’s a great player. A great guy. And I think she’s a terrific person.”
Earlier this month, he posted on Truth Social that he “can’t stand” Swift and that she is “no longer hot.”
August media frenzy
It’s been one media and fan frenzy after another this month for Swift, who announced her 12th studio album, The Life of a Showgirl, on Aug. 12 in a teaser for a podcast episode with Kelce and his brother Jason.
The next day, she unveiled the cover art, track list and release date for the album (Oct. 3).

During the episode, she likened her career to Kelce’s, saying their jobs were “to entertain people for three hours in NFL stadiums.”
The Life of a Showgirl follows last year’s The Tortured Poets Department, released during the Eras tour, which raked in about $3 billion Cdn across two years and five continents, making it the highest-grossing tour of all time.
On Tuesday, the Kelce brothers’ popular podcast New Heights shared a photo of the engagement on Instagram stories, writing “NEW NEWS!” In a post, the podcast shared the same photo, but Photoshopped in a topless image of Jason Kelce cheering.
“This pretty much sums up everyone’s reaction,” the post said.
