Mob Psycho 100 is loud and strange and chaotic, but at its core, it’s about the quiet parts of growing up, identity, isolation, and how you deal with the parts of yourself that you don’t fully understand. It’s easy to get wrapped up in the explosions and psychics and ghosts, but what really makes this series hit hard is the way even the side characters feel like they’re carrying something. You meet them for a scene or two, and suddenly you’re thinking about them days later.

A look back at the most emotionally powerful anime of the 2010s.
That’s the strength of Mob Psycho 100. It gives its characters just enough space to feel real, but sometimes it leaves you wanting more, not because the show didn’t do its job, but because these characters had more to say.

Mezato Ichi
The Journalist Who Saw More Than Anyone Realized
Mezato is introduced as a persistent, slightly nosy school journalist, but she quickly becomes something more complicated. She sees Mob’s potential and latches on, trying to turn him into a figurehead for the Psycho Helmet Cult. It’s misguided, yeah, but her motives aren’t entirely selfish. She’s curious. She sees something big happening and doesn’t want to miss it.
What makes her interesting is that she sticks around. She’s in the background, still paying attention, still pushing. But we never really get her full perspective. What drives her? Why is she so obsessed with Mob and the truth behind him? She’s smart and observant and clearly skeptical of people in power. A little more screentime could’ve fleshed her out into a standout.

Tsubomi Takane
A Silent Presence With a Story Untold
Tsubomi is Mob’s childhood crush. She barely speaks, barely reacts, and yet she looms large in his world. That’s the point, Mob has projected a lot onto her, but it’s also a missed opportunity.
We get hints that Tsubomi is perceptive, calm under pressure, and maybe a little disillusioned with how people act around her. But we don’t get to hear her voice enough. What does she think of Mob? Of her peers? Of growing up? It would’ve been powerful to see more of her as her own person, especially given how central she is to Mob’s emotional journey.

Hoshino
The Heartfelt Strength Behind the Body Improvement Club
Let’s talk about pure heart. Muscles aside, Hoshino is one of the most unexpectedly wholesome characters in the series. He never mocks Mob for being weak. He just cheers him on. That sincerity is rare in anime, especially coming from a character who could’ve easily been a one-note gym bro.

Everyone loves a good ghost, but these ones are the best of the best.
It would’ve been great to spend more time with him, not in fights, but just in scenes where he encourages others, lifts them up, or maybe even struggles with his own insecurities. The guy clearly has leadership qualities and emotional intelligence. He deserved more room to show them.

Emi
A Moment of Kindness That Deserved More Depth
Remember Emi? The classmate who asks Mob out as part of a dare but ends up genuinely moved by his kindness? She’s only in a couple of episodes, but she quietly delivers one of the most touching moments in the series, when Mob helps her gather the pages of her torn-up novel.
That scene is beautiful because it’s not about romance. It’s about being seen, and about someone taking your passion seriously. Emi’s relationship with creativity, shame, and pressure is deeply relatable. I would’ve loved to see how that moment changed her going forward.
6
Takenaka
The Loudmouth Leader With Hidden Complexity
Takenaka is the loudmouth leader of the Telepathy Club, and yeah, he starts off as comic relief. But later on, when we learn he does have mild telepathic abilities, it changes things. He’s not just a slacker, he’s someone who didn’t ask for his powers and quietly carries the weight of them.
There’s a lot to unpack there. What does it feel like to live with a secret ability you’re not sure you want? How does that shape the way you interact with people? Takenaka had more emotional depth than the show gave him space to explore.
5
Serizawa’s Former Bosses
The Shadows That Shaped His Anxiety
We meet Serizawa as a nervous wreck who’s been manipulated into serving Claw. Later, we see him try to rebuild his life. But what’s missing is more of the people who shaped him before Mob and Reigen showed up.

Sometimes the strange and zany gets to shine in the anime industry. Here’s a list of the best weird anime!
His early isolation, and the way people treated him because of his powers and anxiety, is hinted at, but we never get the full picture. A few more flashbacks or encounters with people from his past could’ve added layers to his arc. Watching him confront them would’ve made his growth even more powerful.
4
Sho Suzuki
A Rebel With a Legacy Too Big to Ignore
Sho is a wild card. He’s Toichiro’s son, has serious power, and a strong sense of justice. He’s also someone who clearly resents his father but chooses to fight him in his own way.
We get just enough of Sho to be intrigued, but he kind of vanishes after the Claw arc. And that’s a shame. There’s so much tension there, legacy, rebellion, guilt. Watching him navigate that in the aftermath could’ve been fascinating, especially if he had to figure out who he is without the mission of stopping his father.
3
Minegishi
A Claw Member With Potential for Redemption
Of all the Claw members, Minegishi is probably the most underutilized. His power is visually unique, and his demeanor is unnervingly calm. But more than that, he shows hints of internal conflict. He isn’t loyal to Claw out of ideology, it’s more like habit or convenience.
What would happen if someone like him actually reflected on the damage he’s caused? Or tried to change paths like Serizawa did? He’s the kind of character who could’ve had a quiet, introspective redemption arc, and I wish we’d seen it.
2
Ishiguro
The Lost Child Behind the Mask of Power
Ishiguro is introduced as one of the upper-echelon members of Claw, full of power and confidence. But once he’s unmasked, we realize he’s just a kid, lonely, angry, and trying way too hard to matter. That twist is powerful, but it’s over in a flash. We never get to sit with it.
What led him down this path? Did he have friends? Was he ever scared of what he was becoming? A deeper dive into his backstory would’ve made his fall feel less like a twist and more like a tragedy.
1
Rei Kurosaki
A Quiet Supporter in a World of Chaos
Rei is the most soft-spoken member of the Telepathy Club, and while she’s not central to the action, she quietly adds a lot to the group’s dynamic. She supports Mob, not because of his powers, but because she sees him as someone worth rooting for.
What stands out about Rei is how genuine she is. She doesn’t have an agenda. She’s just kind, perceptive, and a little overlooked, much like Mob himself. A deeper look into her background or even a small side story where she helps someone in a subtle but meaningful way would’ve fit beautifully in the show’s emotional rhythm.
